Thanksgiving week in America is usually filled with family dinners and holiday festivities. However, for me, it was an opportunity to try something adventurous. While my American friends were busy visiting their families, I reached out to one of my Arab friends from Syria, a laid-back and adventurous guy. When I asked about weekend plans, he suggested we visit Six Flags Roller Coaster in Magic Mountain, a roller coaster park just north of Los Angeles. Being someone who loves a good thrill, I instantly agreed.

1. Discovering the Best Ticket Deal
The first thing I learned was that planning ahead can save you a lot of money. As we browsed through Six Flags’ website, we were overwhelmed by the ticket options: single-day tickets, season passes, and various bundles. My friend was ready to buy the one-day ticket, but I decided to call the park to double-check. To our surprise, the Gold Pass—which grants unlimited access for a year—was the same price as the one-day ticket!
That call saved us money and gave us an entire year to enjoy the park. My friend was amazed, and I felt pretty proud of my quick thinking.
2. The Scenic Drive to Six Flags
Our trip to Six Flags started with a scenic drive that showcased California’s beauty. Passing through Orange County, I was blown away by the charming towns, lush greenery, and picturesque countryside. California truly lives up to its reputation as one of the most stunning states in America.
When we finally arrived at Six Flags, the park was even more impressive than I imagined. The sheer size of it was overwhelming, and the lack of large crowds was a pleasant surprise.
3. The First Roller Coaster Experience
We decided to start with a smaller ride to ease into the experience. As we waited in line, we noticed there were kids on the ride, which made us think, “This is going to be easy!” Little did we know how wrong we were. The ride started slow, and we laughed, joking about how “childish” it seemed—until we hit the top of the track and plunged down at lightning speed.
We screamed louder than the kids! When the ride ended, we couldn’t stop laughing. It was the perfect introduction to the park, and it set the tone for an unforgettable day.
4. A Soaking Wet Water Ride
After exploring more of the park, we stumbled upon a water ride that seemed like a fun change of pace. We joined a large group in a circular raft, laughing as water splashed over the kids around us. But karma struck when the raft rotated, and a massive wave drenched me and my friend from head to toe.
While my friend was annoyed about being soaked, I couldn’t stop laughing. It was one of those moments that turned into a hilarious memory. I’m already planning to bring more friends to experience the same ride—it’s just too funny to miss.
5. Endless Roller Coaster Adventures
What was supposed to be a quick visit turned into a seven-hour adventure. Each roller coaster we tried was more thrilling than the last, offering high-speed loops, steep drops, and adrenaline-pumping twists. Time flew by as we explored the park, riding as many attractions as we could.
Six Flags is truly a roller coaster lover’s paradise, and every ride felt like a unique challenge. By the end of the day, we were exhausted but exhilarated.
6. A Delicious Stop in Anaheim
After leaving the park, hunger set in, and my friend suggested we stop in Anaheim for some authentic Middle Eastern food. Driving into the city, I was thrilled to see streets lined with Arab stores, restaurants, and bakeries. It felt like a slice of home, and the food was absolutely delicious.
Ending the day with amazing food and good company was the cherry on top of an incredible experience. It’s moments like these that make adventures so memorable.
