5 Reasons I Love San Diego

Hi everyone! My name is Medo. If you’ve been following my blogs, you probably know a little about me. If not, here’s a quick introduction: I’m an Egyptian who recently moved to San Diego, California, for a marketing internship with Q International School.

San Diego, often referred to as “America’s Finest City,” has captivated me in ways I couldn’t have imagined. In this blog, I’ll share the 5 reasons I love San Diego and why this incredible city lives up to its nickname.

1. The Weather

Before moving to San Diego, I kept hearing people rave about the weather. Honestly, I thought they were exaggerating. But now that I’m here, I can confidently say they weren’t! The weather in San Diego is hands-down the best I’ve ever experienced. It’s mild and comfortable year-round—not too hot and not too cold. It reminds me of the weather back home in Egypt, but without the scorching summer heat.

Every day here feels like a vacation. The cool ocean breeze and sunny skies instantly put me in a good mood. Whether I’m heading to work or just relaxing outdoors, the perfect weather always makes the day better.

2. The People

When you combine great weather with a laid-back city, you end up with equally amazing people. San Diegans are some of the friendliest and most relaxed individuals I’ve ever met. Everyone is so chill and approachable—they’ll even greet you as you walk by, which is something I don’t often see in big cities.

The locals here have a warm and welcoming vibe that makes you feel at ease. Many of the other transplants I’ve met here agree—San Diego has a unique charm that attracts people from all walks of life. The positivity is infectious, and it’s one of the things I love most about living here.

3. The Beaches

As someone who grew up in a coastal city in Egypt by the beautiful Red Sea, it was non-negotiable for me to choose a coastal city in America. San Diego turned out to be the perfect choice. The beaches here are nothing short of incredible. They’re pristine, open to the public, and always clean.

One of my favorite spots is in La Jolla, where I often go to relax and watch the waves. Just sitting by the ocean instantly lifts my mood. The water is cold—be ready for a shock if you plan on swimming—but once you’re in, you’ll adapt quickly. The waves are breathtaking, and watching surfers ride them is a sight to behold. Whether you’re swimming, sunbathing, or just enjoying the view, San Diego’s beaches never disappoint.

4. The Diversity

San Diego is truly a melting pot. What’s fascinating is that it’s rare to meet someone who was actually born and raised here. Most people I’ve met are transplants from other states, cities in California, or even other countries. Many came here for a vacation, fell in love with the city, and decided to make it their permanent home.

The city’s diversity is reflected in its neighborhoods. For example, visiting El Cajon feels like stepping back into Egypt—there are Arabic stores, restaurants, and even cars blasting Arabic music. Little Italy offers an authentic taste of Italian culture, and Convoy Street is a haven for Asian food and culture. The mix of cultures here is incredible, making San Diego a place where anyone can feel at home.

5. The Food

Diversity brings one of life’s greatest joys: amazing food. San Diego is a foodie’s paradise, with cuisines from all over the world. And, of course, being so close to the Mexican border, the city is home to the best Mexican food in the U.S. From tacos to burritos, the flavors are authentic and unforgettable.

If you’re a burger lover like me, you can’t miss In-N-Out—it’s a California classic that lives up to the hype. Whether it’s international dishes or local favorites, San Diego’s food scene never fails to impress. And this is a link to In N out if you want to have an idea at what they offer

San Diego has exceeded my expectations in every way. From the perfect weather and friendly people to the stunning beaches, rich diversity, and mouthwatering food, it’s a city that has something for everyone. Moving here has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, and I can’t wait to keep exploring everything it has to offer.

If you’re ever considering visiting or moving to “America’s Finest City,” I highly recommend it. Trust me—you won’t regret it.
